Step 2 – Build

  • Step 2 – Build

Turn the design into a functional robot through mechanical, electrical, and software integration. This phase includes fabrication, assembly, wiring, and programming — all with careful documentation and iteration.

Mechanical Build

  • Fabricate chassis and major subsystems (drive, intake, lift, etc.).
  • Assemble components using proper alignment and fasteners.
  • Check for frame rigidity, weight balance, and maintenance access.

Electrical Wiring

  • Mount Control Hub/Expansion Hub, battery, and switches.
  • Route wires neatly, label all connections, and secure with zip ties.
  • Verify proper power distribution and communication cables.

Software Integration

  • Install and configure SDK, hardware maps, and telemetry.
  • Write base op modes (TeleOp and Autonomous).
  • Test sensors (IMU, encoders, color, distance) and verify readings.

Subsystem Integration

  • Combine all systems and test for mechanical interference.
  • Perform static and motion checks for wiring safety.

Documentation

  • Record build steps, parts used, and photos in your Engineering Notebook.
