As mentioned before, we are a group of 6 students, based in Calgary, in grades 8 and 9. We were formed by 4 of our current members, who decided to name our team Cybertronic PenguinZ because of our shared love of penguins. Orginially, Cybertronic PenguinZ came from the FLL team, Cheez dEms, which gained valuable experience at the FLL World championship. After seeing how interesting FTC was at the World Championships, we decided to move up from FLL and attempt FTC as soon as we could. Today Cybertronic PenguinZ has grown into a team that includes members with a passion for robotic striving to push our boundaries while giving back to the communities we live in. Our dedication to FTC and STEM reflects our commitments to innovation, teamwork and continuous learning.
Ryan is the co-founder of Cybertronic PenguinZ. He has been in FIRST programs for 2 years. He started his journey with FLL Team #56552, which he cofounded with Sylvan. He then started Cybertronic Penguinz with 2 of his teammates from Cheez dEms. He is passionate in CAD and 3D modelling and has been working with mechanical parts since he was 7, which makes him the Hardware and Design team lead. Aside from robotics, Ryan enjoys fencing, playing piano, and cooking.
Sylvan is another co-founder of Cybertronic PenguinZ, when the team was first founded, Sylvan took charge as the lead programmer because of his proficiency in Scratch, Python, and C programming languages. He values hard work and trust and strives to contribute as much as possible to not only programming, but also to other areas such as website design and team branding. Alongside his position in the team, he is also passionate about most branches of science, especially aerospace engineering, astronomy, and ornithology, competing in the Canada Wide Science Fair and pursuing RC aircraft and model rocket hobbies.
Ken is the third founding member of Cybertronic PenguinZ and also a part of Cheez dEms with Sylvan and Ryan. Ken’s leadership and communication skills make him the team captain of Cybertronic PenguinZ. Aside from being the team captain, Ken heavily contributes to community outreach and team media. In his free time, he is passionate about guitar, neuroscience, and marine biology.
Johnny is the fourth founding member of Cybertronic PenguinZ. When he joined the team in its first year, he focused on 3D CAD. He was also a member of the hardware team and acted as the human player during matches. Outside of robotics, Johnny enjoys playing the guitar and biking.
Zirui is a new member of the team coming in the 2024-2025 season graduating from the FLL team Cheezdems. His role in the team mainly foucus on coding and robot design. In the upcomming season, he hopes he could achive his and the teams goals with his help using his skills to help the team to reach success. He is very intrested in field of science such as physics and chemistry, espectially in aerospace. Similar to team member Sylvan, he likes to fly RC aircraft and play flight simulator in his free time.
